The best motivations to good writing are strong feelings. Yes, sadness can drive a great lyric; happiness, love, hate, loss, discovery - all can do the same. The worst things I've written have been created when I've felt I should be should be doing something; the better things I've written (and its only my opinion that they are any better) have been sometimes spontaneous and always heartfelt responses to situations and people that have touched my heart.

Here's the second verse of the song I wrote at the 2000 gathering. I was very happy and I think the lyric is (quite) good. Guess who the verse is about!

There's an ever present song/ that's sung for me/ the minstrel's muse resounding as I play/ I can hear him as I sing for him/ however low I am/ he stirs, he stills/ the storm before the calm

Karen rsponded to verse one of this song by asking, 'write one for me!' That request made me very happy and Karen's song will be online (and played on my guitar) very soon.
