I'm late for my gig as usual, so I'll make this long. My education began when Ben Dorsy got sick and didn't meet the bus! Thats the night my daddy took me to see Jimmy Day and Johnny Bush and some guy named Willie who wrote a Patsy Cline song. Thats the night Uncle Dad said "Go get your stuff your comming with us!" I was a horrible band boy, I wore poor Willie out, he was stuck with me for the tour, I would think I had written a song and ole Willie would just smile and say "Needs Work Charles." Uncle Dad knew I had a song to sing and sat me at the feet of the masters and told me to shut up and listen. It's been rough and rocky traveling but a real doctor finaly told me what was "right" with me and gave me some meds. I still have to hand somebody my drivers license when asked for my address and numbers, but I remember every note. What the masters taught me is that it is not about the notes you play, it's about the song. What I learned from uncle Willie is SING, if you get your heart stomped on write a song about the witch and sing, if the bus breaks down, thumb a ride if you have to but get to the gig and SING, if you break a string play the rest of them and sing! I was finaly able to shut up and listen, one time, and I found my song. I bought a bus and I'm gonna paint Lonesome Charlie Day on the side of it and go sing my song! And, on the nights I realize my "Blue Darlin" is playing me and I open my eyes and look down at my hands, thats when I know, Brother Mac, where's Jimmy. I'm only one of thousand of students, pickers and poets, that Jimmy Day touched on the road in his life. His soul is in hillbilly heaven, but his heart lives on in a song sung by someone somewhere every night! If you can find a copy of Steel and Strings play "I Love You Because" for us. Roy has a copy of some unreleased material on uncle singing his song, Life is just a song, and you don't know the tune to mine. So just sit back and listen while I sing. I'll sing with all my heart and soul, cause that's the way I feel, and I'm just living for a song I'd die to sing! The world is not your oyster you can open up for free, you'll pay the price for each pearl on your string! So judge me if you must, but don't be to quick to condemn, I'm just living for a song I'd die to sing. Life gives unto live and I owe more than I can pay and you can't take away more that you bring. So be the best of what you are, and remember that life is just a song, and I'm just living for a song I'd die to sing! Thank you for this space Mick, thank you for the ride Will, and thank you for reminding me where's Jimmy, mister McWilliams. LOVE Porch LOVE! I feel much better now, pass the Blue Bell, Quick, I'm late!
