Thanks, Eve, for displaying the picture of my two “babes”. Somebody had asked about an updated picture of Kalea. This was taken about six weeks ago. Last week, when Joe Z. stopped by, he brought up the subject of Mickey’s influence on our lives. He asked about the single most profound instance of this in my life. These two beautiful girls are prominent in that time. Just about two years ago (ok, Ginny, it didn’t get hit by a car), I got my copy of “Silver Moon Café”. After listening to the first four or five cuts, I called Mick. I thought he’d absolutely nailed these cuts and wanted to tell him so. He asked how much of it I’d listened to, & when I told him he said “listen to the rest of it & call me back”. It took me about five hours. I kept playing the last four cuts, over & over. Then, I’d try to call him, start crying & hang up. When I finally talked to him, he had to put up with something that probably sounded almost like sobs (ok, it was sobs). Many have heard the story, but here it is again. Twenty years before (Twenty years & Sweet Dreams ago), Lacie was born. She is my daughter, but I’d seen her only once, when I accidently ran into her mother & she asked if I’d like to hold her. I did, then did not hold her again until a year and a half ago. Her mother was married at that time, years ago. When she became pregnant, she and her husband decided to stay together. They moved to California shortly after Lacie was born, and it was agreed that she and her husband would raise Lacie and I’d not be involved. I agreed, for the benefit of all concerned. When Lacie was in her late teens, her parents divorced. Her mom called me, just to let me know that if things got rough, her parentage might come up. I might get involved. The subject did not come up. I got a note later, saying the divorce was over and included some pictures of Lacie. First I’d seen of her since she was a newborn. At this same time, Judy & I told our kids that they had a half-sister out there. They reacted beautifully…”Cool, when do we get to meet her”. Any was 2 plus years ago, daughter Kristi came to me & said “Dad, when are you gonna get off your ass & do something so I can meet my sister”. It had been strong on my mind for a long time, but this brought it to a head. Just before this time, daughter Jenny had come to us & said “Mom, Dad, I’m gonna have a baby & Chris (her now ex-boyfriend) wants no part of it”. These two events gave me plenty to think about. “A Storm Coming” and “A Father’s Prayer” just took my knees from under me. After making a fool of myself on the phone with Mick, I went to work, getting to know my daughter. Then came beautiful Kalea. She and her mom lived with us ‘til two weeks ago. Judy & I went to California 1.5 yrs ago & met Lacie for the first time. Then, last August, daughter Kristi went with me to meet her sister. This past July, Lacie came to Texas and I had all my kids & grandkids together for the first time. This picture of Kalea & Lacie is wonderful. I have a picture of all my kids with me. I call it the picture that took twenty-two years to develop. So now I have three daughters, one son, two granddaughters and two grandsons. I also have a beautiful and wonderful wife. I am truly blessed. Thanks for listening.
