Andrew, law schools use the Socratic method. On a law school exam there are no right or wrong answers. You are graded on applying very general principles to specific facts - and it is your reasoning that matters, not your conclusion. If there was a black and white answer to every legal question, no one would ever have to go to trial.

No lawyer knows the law. He or she knows where to go to find the applicable precedent, statute, rule, etc., and the real test is interpretation and appliation of very general concepts to the facts at hand. It is nothing more nor less than an exercise in logic. Do the premises support the conclusion?

I think my favorite word is "LOGIC". Teach your students to think locgically, and they will prevail. Let them dwell in fallacy, and they will not.

Chanticleer the cock crowed eached morning and made the sun come up. (fallacy of causation)

Keep up the good work. Knowledge of facts is nice, but knowing how to think is the key!

Bill
