Well my friends where do I start. Tonight I went out and had a few drinks with my friends and the subject of Aboriginals came up. For those of you who don't know my son, daughter in law and grandaughter are all Koorie(aboriginal) A very good friend of mine would not, or could not accept the truth that what we were taught in our schools back in the 50's were lies to cover up the massacres that took place of the indigineous people of this country. Much the same as what happened to the Native Americans. The Koorie people also defended this land to such an extent that most of the Southern part of east coast was declared to be "under a state of seige." We were never told that though, we were taught that the Aboriginals gave up their country for a few trinkets. What we had been taught in our schol system here was a complete lie to what really took place, and it is only now that the truth is being told. Some Australians are finding it difficult to acknowledge the truth, and this is what I came across tonight in the discussion I had with my friend. I defendended the Koorie People vehemently. I saw my son cry because he was "born black" and have seen first hand the treatment given to the Koorie people of this land by the police and the powers that be. Now I feel I have lost a friend because of my own beliefs, love and respect that I have for the original inhabitants of this great land. I am feeling sad beause of this, and I guess it is easier for me to ask whether I was right or wrong from people that don't have anything to either gain or lose from stating their opinion. I have to say I'm feeling pretty lousy at the moment though, and would appreciate some kind of feedback from my friends on the porch. Griffon.
