This week's Sports Illustrated has the cover article and photo on Johnny Unitas. It is titled: "The Best There Ever Was." Mickey was too. I don't think any songwriter ever used such simple language to create such beautiful songs; simple with layers of complexity and intricate connections to other lines or songs or stories. In the hands of genius the difficult appears simple, and Mickey was the best at using very simple words and melodies to create songs of deep emotion and lasting beauty. And he could sing like a bird.
