Dear Front Porch folk, one and all,
I join all of you in mourning the loss of Mickey, who was a true friend to all, and in extending love and sympathy to Mamie, Susan, and all the Newbury family.
I also join you in raising voices in tribute to a wonderful artist and man who gave so much more than any mere collection of songs. Outstanding though they are, his songs are mere reflections of a great human being. Yes, Mickey is the greatest musical inspiration of my life (and of many others' lives, too, I'm sure), yet he's an important personal inspiration as well.
Thank you so much, everyone, for sharing from your hearts at this time.... Mickey is pleased, I'm sure. And yes, Jeff, I feel confident that we'll keep the torches of friendship lit here on the board.
As it happens, I've not posted at The Front Porch in months, for I've been blessed with a great deal of activity in my own musical career, and in spreading word about Mickey's music at every stop. But you can bet your Tony Lamas, and your ten-gallon, too, that I've thought of you very often. Whenever I'd talk to Mick on the telephone, he'd reassure me that I was doing the right thing to focus for a while on the music, then to check back in whenever possible. From the moment I first met Mickey almost thirty years ago to the present, he encouraged and reassured one after another of the musicians I've come to know since: Don Byers and Jack Williams are just two of the veritable boatload of those who attribute much of the credit for sparking their careers today to Mickey's support.
That's Mickey for you.... but all of you already know that, anyway, and you know that he extended the same loving support to us in other aspects of our lives outside music.
