2:30am on my screen porch here in the Ozarks. I think I'm the only one in the county who is awake...weeping, humming "MickeyTunes" and remembering... It was one of my "far too rare" phone conversations with Mickey some time ago (he had called me at 3:00am Nashville time). He had heard of my discovering an eighteen year-old daughter that I had not known that I had before. He was delighted to hear the news and wanted to share in it with me. As we talked of my daughter and the Love we had discovered in one another it was like old times in the evening there on the front steps of his cabin on the lake in Hendersonville. I spoke for some 30 minutes of my daughter and how strong the bond of love was even though neither of us had known the other existed for so many years. Finally he asked for her name. I said,"Her Mother named her for the flip side of an old Roy Orbison 45 rpm record...her name is LEAH" Mickey laughed and said, "We have a daughter named Leah too...well almost the same anyway!" For the next 40 minutes we talked no more of my child. Mickey spoke nonstop about Annaleah!!! We've never met...but I know you through Mickey's Love just as he shared my Love for my Leah. You were a smile in his voice and a deep-rooted Joy in his heart. You made his life fuller and richer simply by being you. In my heart there is a room full of Love for my daughter where no one else can go. I knew Mickey as my Friend. So, "Weeping AnnaLeah"...As you weep...KNOW, in that special "room" in his heart, how very much you are loved. I'll leave you with a special memory from Mickey's front steps at the cabin on the lake in Tennessee. Three-quarter moon throwing it's light in a line across the lake, skeeters buzzin' and Mickey with his guitar on his knee singing "Jesus.......do you still know me? Well, here I stand....ragged and worn". I see him tonight...and I know what Jesus' answer was...a smiling and loving, "YES...I know you....and welcome home!" May God be with you and your family. Thank you for sharing Mickey with so many of us.......
