I would just like to take the opportunity to share with you all a day in my memory. A litle over a year ago I was contacted by a company to do some work for them. Their clients were Mickey & Susan Newbury. I thought the name sounded familiar so I asked my client about that. He confirmed that he was the one and only "Mickey Newbury". Well a few days later I got the wonderful opportunity to meet Mickey, his wife and a few of his family. All wonderful people! I was going about my work on this very cold December day and went inside to warm up a bit and finish my work. Then I met Mickey. We chatted for a while, about music, my profession, and the state of music today. He told me about some of his travels, times with friends and other musicians. I really enjoyed that, thanks Mickey. I have met few as kind and so genuine of a man as Mickey. He asked me "son, do you like music, I mean really like,,,,music?" I said, "well yes of course I do, I like all kinds of music." A bit later Mickeys daughter came into the room and he asked her to get a cd for him. It turned out that he wanted to give me a copy of his CD "A Long Road Home". I am very grateful of this generosity and his sharing with me a bit of his time and travels. I did not know if Mickeys passing till I watched the news tonight. Saddened I am, but glad I got to share a bit of my life with such a great and humble man. In watching the news story I suddenly remembered that I awoke from sleep at about 2:40 AM sunday, thirsty and a bit aanxious about someting, but not knowing what. I now know why. I live just a little ways from Mickeys home and will continue to give a honk and a wave every time in passing. Mickey, Thanks for all you have given us, and above all thanks for sharing with me a bit of your life. You will be missed! May God bless your family, friends and all you have touched with your music. You touched me! Thanks Mickey, thanks for everything. Kevin Hescock
