I first met Mickey in the late 70's when he lived up the Mckenzie River. I worked for my Father who owned mckenzie Disposal Service and I ran his route for him. I picked up the trash in Leaburg on Fridays and had the Newburys as a customer. I didn't know they were famous at that time but remember Susan and the boys who came out and talked with me when I was at their home. When Mickey wasn't touring, he would come out and visit with me. I remember the car in the carport.. a all aluminum car.. I was very interested in it and Mickey would talk to me about it and his travels.. He gave me an album that he had yet to go public and signed it for me. I still today have it. Mickey and the family was no different than your next door neighbors, so friendly and so "normal". It has been over 24 years now and I will never forget them. I wish them well and I am so sorry for the families loss of Mickey. He was a great man..not only for what he wrote and performed, but for the family man that he was.
