I first met Mickey in 1992 at the FloraBama and we became close friends for the last 10 years. The world was truely a better place because of Mickey. No other writer could touch your heart and soul like the words and music Mickey so graciously shared with us. I will never forget 10 of the happiest hours in my life driving Mickey from the FloraBama to Decatur, Ga. Memories of his childhood and all the good times in his life that we discussed. Mickey's voice was angelic and in my mind and in the minds of many others that I have talked with he was the greatest singer/songwriter ever. He taught me some things about song writting I never knew before. He said that songs should paint pictures, touch emotions, and above all, tell us stories. A good word from him about some of my songs was like winning an Oscar. On the trip he spoke about Susan and the children with much love and pride in them. I loved all his songs, but my favorite was Genevieve, which he always sang for me everytime I had the privilidge to watch him preform his music. Mickey taught me the true meaning of having and being a friend. I called him many times and always closed our conversation with "I love you", Mickey always said "I love you too pal". To Susan and the children I share your grief along with thousands of others.
