We had over 25,000 people listening over the internet for the Memorial Show Monday night. That's why a lot of folks couldn't get on the net to hear the show. It was plum full up. This evenng I got many e-mails from people who had not heard Mickey sing his songs except on my show. These new fans resopnded like this fan did.
Dear Jimmie, I was glad not to have missed your heart-felt tribute to Mickey Newbury last night. I could see the devoted preparation you must have put into it in such a short amount of time and obviously during a difficult and sad time for you. Mickey must have been your dear friend, it showed. It was quite touching, and I was happy to be a part of it as a listener and as a fan of yours and of KDAV. My sympathies go out to you, and all of Mr. Newbury's family, fans and friends. Your friend, Bill Phillips
When I remember the first time I listened to "Looks Like Rain" 5 or 6 times in a row in the dark in my little one room appartment in Nashville in the summer of '69, I again realize what people unfamiliar with Mickey's crystal clear voice and haunting melodies experience. What a joy it is to know that Mickey still "connects" with human hearts. And just because it's 30 years later, why would we even have any doubts about it. Oh, we of litle faith. Jimmie
