I have been a Mickey Newbury fan for over 30 years and have converted others to his beautiful music because I was so taken with his soulfull sound since I heard him for the first time. I have almost all of his original albums, which to me contain timeless songs that move me to this very day. I can honestly say that over the years I have spent more time alone with Mickey and his music that I have with some members of my own immediate family. I was priviledged to see Mickey perform twice in the San Francisco bay area some 15 years ago. It was the fulfillment of a dream, but unfortunately I did not have the chance to personally tell Mickey how very much he had meant to me and what a gifted man I thought he was. Just the other day a friend informed me of Mickey's passing. It was like loosing another dear friend, which had already happened to me once this year. I found this web site and spent three hours last night reading all the condolences. I didn't know much personal information about Mickey before, but through his music I always believed I DID know him. No other musician moved me the way Mickey did and no one will ever take his place, especially since I expect to be playing his songs until it is my time to go. My sincerest condolences to Mickey's family and all the members of his "porch" group. We surely will miss the man and any new songs he might have produced, but at least he has left us with, "Sweet Memories".
