Last night I was at the 5th Take Root festival in the town of Assen in The Netherlands. I talked backstage with Fred Eaglesmith just before he went up stage to play with his band. I showed him the email I received from Mick on august 20th, just after he returned home with Susan from a 8000 mile trek. Fred told me Mickey was his hero and I said that he is mine too. I asked Fred if he could say something on stage to the audience. I told him that on the time he was on stage in Holland, we all said goodbye to Mickey. Fred went up, played a couple of songs and than told the audience about Mickey and that Mickey was his hero. he dedicated his next song to Mickey. Can't say what I felt,I was in tears. Fact is, tears are coming up again writing this. Mickey has been a great inspiration to me back from 1972. In my coming shows on stage as a singer/songwriter, I will make a tribute to Mickey. I have never had the chance to meet Mickey, but I think his spirit is all somebody has to understand. I hope I do right with this. Love to all the Newbury family and to all of you frontporchers.
