Sometimes things just happen and there has to be a reason. Many years ago I ran a radio station in Portland, Oregon and we played a lot of Mickey's music because I loved it so. I left that radio job at the end of 1978 to work in television (now Oregon Public television) Saturday, I got a call from the folks at Oregon Public RADIO saying they were trying out a new weekend show and would I come in and redo for radio a story I did on TV about a local group, MISTY RIVER. I said sure, what time? The answer was that they needed me to come on between 1:40 and 1:50 PM but they had a problem. The Misty River story was too short and I'd have to ad-lib to fill out the time. Of course, I used the time to offer a brief tribute to Mickey and his amazing songs and ended by playing "Let Me Sleep". The song ended just ten minutes before our collective gathering at 2:00 PM. You know I hadn't been on the radio in almost 24 years. It's funny why that call came on that day. I'm not sure if anyone made a tape but if they did, I'll take a copy down to Susan next time I visit. My thoughts are with the family and all fellow porchers. Best, JeffD
