I did feel like I was intruding on old friends, and that was the reason I hesitated, but everyone was so welcoming that I felt like I belonged here right away. Mickey seemed to have encouraged so many people on this porch to get together and be close. I think he wanted us all to have a support system for when he was gone. Having others here who understand what I feel is very helpful. (I wandered onto the porch by myself. I hadn't seen Mickey for quite a few years, but I don't think he would mind that I'm here.)
How marvelous that you got to perform with Mickey. I'll bet you have wonderful stories you can share with us, if you'd like. That's one of the things I enjoy most about this porch: listening to stories about Mickey. It makes him seem closer again somehow. It's healing.
As far as getting together for music with some of the people here on the porch, I think it would please Mickey if we got creative and found a way to do just that. We're all in this together, so maybe someone else has an idea of how to do it. And you've got a built-in audience...me!
It wouldn't be the same, because Mickey's not with us...and yet he is, and always will be. Just look at what he gave us. He gave us each other.
I'm happy to walk up the steps with you.
