I don't know if anyone else ever experienced this when Mick was singing kind of one-on-one with them, but two or three times when I got to enjoy that pleasure, I got the feeling that Mick was toying with me a bit with his lyrics.

The only way to explain what I mean is to give you an example:

I'm sure you're all familiar with the line ... "and from here where I lie I can see ..." from The Piper.

Well, in my first one-on-one with Mick, just him and me ... him singing his songs ... he got to that line in that song and did it this way:

"and from here where I'm laying I see ... "

He kept singing, he didn't stop, but he looked at me when he sang the changed lyric ... intently ... like he wanted to know whether I knew that he'd changed that great double entendre he'd created.

Yes, I realized he had, that change just jumps out at you like a sore thumb, and I must have gotten a weird look on my face. As soon as he knew I KNEW, as soon as he was sure that I knew something wasn't right, he winked at me. And when he completed that part, he reprised it ... and did it right the last time.

When he was done, he didn't say anything. I didn't either. But I suspect it was one of his practical jokes. I remember that happening a couple of times, and he'd always grin like a cheshire cat when the song was done. Never said anything ... but grinned that big, enchanting, wonderful grin.
