I was pulling out of a supermarket parking lot, turned on my radio and Mickey Newbury was singing to me (I always feel like he’s singing to ME, no matter how many others are listening as well). Immediately, I knew that he must be gone, because it was an all-talk station that never plays music. I was so sad, because I hadn’t been in touch with him in a long time, and now I knew it was too late.

Then there was the lovely article in the Register-Guard, and I made everyone who came near my desk at work read it. It made me regret even more all the years I had wasted, when I discovered that Mickey was still living here. I was dumbfounded to discover the web site address at the bottom of the article. I couldn’t believe that I could have been visiting Mickey on the porch, and met all the rest of you wonderful people, literally years ago. What a missed opportunity.

One of my co-workers asked me what Mickey’s music was like. Well, I went home at lunch and made a quick tape of some of his songs so she could hear the magic.

No one on this porch will be surprised…she loves Mickey’s music and said, “I should play it whenever I am in the car because it is so soothing and calming.” She is going to play it for her fiancé, knows he will love it, and is wanting to know where to purchase her own CDs. The last time I called CD World here in town, they were completely out of everything of Mickey’s, so I’m sending her to the web site. (And speaking of the web site, I’ve ordered two new (to me) Mickey CDs from this site, and as soon as that VISA bill is paid off, I’m getting the whopping $100 Mickey Newbury bonanza. Can’t wait.)

Just wanted everyone on the porch to know that Mickey continues to charm and beguile…and not only us.
