Mickey's releases, at least his LP tracks, did NOT fit on A.M. radio, for many reasons. There has been a lot of discussion about it.

Much music of the Sixties was recorded to play in the car, ie. Spector's "Wall of Sound". however, Mickey’s epitomic albums came out during the rush to FM (minus country stations, mind you) with it’s sonic superiority. Note that that is the time when LP sales eclipsed singles sales. In many parts of the country, if you heard Mickey at all on the radio, it was from the FM album track stations.

In my opinion, Mick’s singles, like “Sweet Memories” or “Why You Been Gone So Long” (if it was indeed a single) would sound great on AM. But, Cortelia, Frisco, Heaven and other album tracks would not. You have to keep turning the car “stereo” up and down to hear all of the music within the road noise.

I believe Mick wanted to present to us exactly what he heard when he recorded on the 4 track. Why did he concern himself about the hiss he heard otherwise?

The fact is, the 4 track Mick recorded “Looks Like Rain” on sounded better than what copies came out on vinyl. Bob R and crew have done a darn good job at giving us that original listening experience.
