Had a quick, but good meeting with Mr. Nelson last night in Dallas. Gave him everything that I had on Mick...about twenty-three CD's, counting some of the tapes that I have that I had copied to CD. He had just finished up a new album which will be released for Christmas and he's taking off for three months after the first of the year. At that time he said that he would go back into the studio, hopefully to work on an album of Mick's songs.
A quick note to those who keep up with his band, my old friend and Sammi's ex, Jody Payne, plans to retire the later part of June of next year. Jody has been playing with Willie for over thirty years.
Saw a lot of old friends last night including, Dallas artist, Steve Brooks and Scooter Franks, who's been Willie's merchandising manager for over thirty-five years, along with all the guys in the band. Mickey, the harp player, has the least time with the group...he's only been with Willie for 29 years.
Willie will turn 70 on April 30th of next year and says he has plans to "cut" his schedule down to about 150 dates a year. His bus, turned over 3,000,000 miles a couple of months ago.
He did ask me to send his love to Susie and the kids.
