The power of some people and their imprint on history is amazing. Like so many of us, my world lately is much of reflection. I walk the streets of San Francisco every day and this beautiful city has changed. It changed on February 1st, 1997 when San Francisco Chronicle columnist, Herb Caen died. His love for "The City" kept the gray away; not the gray of the fog but the "gray" of the encroaching changes that slowly transformed the jewel that all the world loved into much like other cities plagued by politics, homelessness, and the rest of today's realities. But somehow, Herb Caen's Pulitzer Prize-winning visions of San Francisco were mostly ones of shared beauty.

Like Larry, I miss Mickey when he was on here and in the three years I was lucky enough to know him, the world WAS that "Big Blue Marble" he called it. Both who he was and his music allowed you to visit the better part of yourself; that part of kindness and consideration along with appreciation of simple and true values. Of the many things I miss, I miss his uncomplicated looks at life.

I don't want to remember him bigger or more exalted than he was.

Just the way he was.

And the wonderful thing about it is...that it's all there in his music.

And today I am thinking especially of "Country Boy Saturday Night".
