You hit the nail on the head! The fact is that I didn't call as much as I could have, but I could "feel" our long conversations tired him out. When he was in Texas and staying about fifty miles away from my office, I only drove over there a couple of times...once again, I could see the effort it took for him to sit up and talk. Regrets...my main one was losing contact with Mick over a ten year period. I left the music business, which I loved, and still do, but like any obsession, when you have to give it up, you have to stay away for a period of time. Do I regret the choice I made...no! From a financial, family and personal standpoint, it was the right thing to do. The wonderful thing is that with friends like Mickey or Willie and several others, when I came back around...it was like I never had been gone. Of course, that's what true friendships are all about.
I consider the wonderful folks I have "met" here on the porch good friends, even through I have never met the vast majority of them. That's what I call "Mickey Magic". People who love Mickey are proof that birds of a feather do flock together.
I do look forward to the time that another gathering can be held. It's real hard to give and get hugs on a computer.
