Doyle Grisham was the steel guitar player for the Glazer Brothers when i wrote songs for them. I did many demos at their studio. Doyle played his steel guitar on all my demos and used it to simulate strings. I still have them on cassette tape. I was under the impression that most all good steel guitar players back then could do that. He could play the regular steel sound for breaks and then go back to being a string section very quickly, at the press of a foot switch, I think. I just took it for granted that Doyle could do it, and that I wanted strings on my songs, so he did it. I'm surprised to hear that it was unusual.
