Well, not big money, but money. Five bucks to be exact. I was doing a search on poem sites last night and I found this Christian poem site. I sent them my poem (not a contest or anything) just for the heck of it. They emailed me and asked if they could use it in some publication they put out. I think they said it's a free publication for anybody that wants one. I really don't know the particulars and I probably won't do it, but I thought it was neat that anyone would want to pay me anything for one of my poems. The real kicker is that it's a poem I wrote about a year and a half ago, in the spring, when Mickey wasn't doing very well and we didn't know if he was going to make it. Thank God he did. At that same time I was visiting my parents grave site and thinking how my mother used to stand at my dads grave and tears would come to her eyes. I then started thinking about Susie and Mickey and praying that Susie wouldn't have to do that any time soon. I then came up with the poem, Letting Go (which most everyone here has seen). I read it at my sister in laws funeral last Jan. This is getting to long but all I really wanted to say was that I thought it ironic that I would write a poem about a guy that I have idolized (Mickey) for years and it was Mickey that caused me to want to learn how to write poems and it was a poem about Mickey that someone first offered me money for. None of that seems to make a whole lot of sense but maybe you can figure out what I'm trying to say.
